Splatoon 2 Version 4 Summary
A Look into the new Splatoon 2 Update Ver. 4
Splatoon has quickly become one of Nintendo’s best IPs since its launch on the WiiU. Now in its second game, we have a massive new update with a focus on Splatfests. The Version 4 update is split into so far two parts. Part one was released on the 13th, following the Direct with the next phase happening in early October. Which you can read on Splatoon’s Tumblr page here.
Cosmetically, there will be new hairstyles for Octolings. There will be new gear as well. A highlight is the showing of new specials and weapons, more specifically, throwables one highlight is an exploding spraypaint can. Another noteworthy inclusion is the Kensa weapon set from the first Splatoon game. The first part of the collection came out after the Direct and the rest will come in October.
Changes to Splatfests
However the main focus of this update was the changes to Splatoon 2’s Splatfest events. Solo and Team modes have been replaced with Normal and Pro Mode. Normal mode lets you play solo or with three other friends. Bonuses you get from matches are now added to your clout, which you get by beating teams. Pro Mode judges you by Splatfest Power. You raise your Splatfest Power by raising your clout. You also get more Splatfest Power by beating teams with more power.
Matchmaking in Splatoon 2’s multiplayer has changed to match you by your win streak. There are also rare 10x battles where the points you earned in a match is multiplied by ten. There are also rarer 100x battles where your points are multiplied by one hundred. If a friend wins 10x or someone wins 100x battles, they will show on the big screen in Inkopolis Square. If you are in Matchmaking, the information will appear on your screen. Splatfest results are now a combination of votes and clout from both new modes.
Other news mentioned in the Splatoon 2 Version 4 update was that team names are going to be generated based on what your team is composed of. Certain skills, weapons, and gear affect the name of your team. Also, those with a year long Nintendo Online Subscription will receive a code for exclusive gear.
