Star Trek Discovery Enters Production
As of today, Star Trek is officially back as a TV property! The production crew released this video to YouTube showing off the set of Star Trek Discovery, the latest in a long line of Trek-programs that has been dormant for over a decade.
The show was originally announced for a May 2017 debut, but because of this late start, it won’t be showing up until sometime later (date yet to be determined). Set ten years before the Shatner original, Discovery will star Sonequa Martin-Green, James Frain, Michelle Yeoh, Anthony Rapp and Doug Jones.
Unfortunately this is not a program that will be running on anything the majority of you readers are currently subscribed to. Star Trek Discovery will belong exclusively to CBS All Access, the offshoot streaming channel of a network that mostly airs content aimed at Middle America. There is not much on All Access besides Star Trek Discovery that a Pop Geek would care about, and it may not be worth the cost for most.
If the show is good, however, it could sway some Trekkies into parting with their money. We’ll just have to wait and see.
