Star Trek: Nicholas Meyer Set to Work on New TV Series
Bryan Fuller and CBS Television Studios have officially announced that a much beloved figure is returning to the Star Trek franchise. Nicholas Meyer, the director for two seminal Star Trek pictures in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, is set to serve on the writing staff and as a consulting producer for the new series. Meyer also served as the writer for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, another beloved entry in the franchise.
Meyer will join the show alongside Bryan Fuller (TV’s Hannibal), who is going to co-create, produce and serve as showrunner for the new, upcoming Star Trek series. Speaking on the announcement, Bryan Fuller stated: “Nicholas Meyer chased Kirk and Khan ’round the Mutara Nebula and ’round Genesis’ flames, he saved the whales with the Enterprise and its crew, and waged war and peace between Klingons and the Federation. We are thrilled to announce that one of Star Trek’s greatest storytellers will be boldly returning as Nicholas Meyer beams aboard the new Trek writing staff.”
The new series is being produced by CBS Television Studios, and it’s slated for a 2017 launch. CBS will broadcast the premiere episode, and all the subsequent first-run episodes will then be released exclusively for CBS All Access. In addition, the series will be released on TV channels and platforms across the globe.
