Star Wars Battlefront Will Get More Free Content
EA and DICE have faced criticism in the past week over the fact that Star Wars Battlefront seems a little sparse with content and the fact that the game has a hugely expensive season pass. This $49.99 priced extra gives access to a variety of new maps, game modes, Star Cards, weapons and characters, though some believe it will include content that was cut from the game to purposely sell on to customers at a later date. To ease those concerns, EA has revealed that they are committed to releasing free content for the game too.
Speaking on the EA website, vice president Patrick Soderlund confirmed that DICE would be preparing and releasing free content throughout the life of the game. This new content will release alongside the paid expansions, bringing extra Star Cards and maps.
“Of course, we are also planning to support Star Wars Battlefront with new content well into the future. We will be adding more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months, in addition to all of the content we have coming with Season Pass. We’ll have more to share soon.”
The first piece of free content, The Battle of Jakku, has been designed to tie-in with the upcoming release of the movie Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It will include two multiplayer maps, with Graveyard of Giants being compatible with the game modes Supremacy, Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron, and Goazan Badalands able to be played in Blast, Drop Zone, Droid Run, Cargo, Hero Hunt and Heroes vs. Villains.
The free DLC will also include access to a brand new game mode called Turning Point. EA has described it as “chaotic”, explaining that it is a 40-player gametype that sees the Rebels trying to take over Imperial control points in a set time limit. Eventually, if the Rebels are able to secure enough of the objectives, Turning Point will conclude with a final battle at the Imperial base.
The Battle of Jakku will be available from December 1 for those that pre-ordered Star Wars Battlefront and a week later for everyone else.
