Stephen Amell Says He’s Fine With A Green Arrow In DCEU
When the DCEU was announced, one of the biggest questions was whether it would connect to the DCTV universe, which had already been set up in surprising depth with Arrow and Flash. This was quickly squashed, much the chagrin of fans and certain DCTV actors.
This included Arrow star Stephen Amell, who does play Green Arrow in the show. He though the DCEU would’ve benefited from actors like him and Flash star Grant Gustin being brought into the Justice League, as they were already established characters and already had a clear fanbase. Many fans echoed his thoughts, especially when Ezra Miller was cast as Barry Allen in the DCEU.
At a panel at SLCC, Stephen Amell was asked about the recasting of Flash in the DCEU and Amell let his thoughts be known once again, but this time with a little more clarity:
“I wasn’t mad that they didn’t cast Grant in the movie,” Amell explained. “What I called into question was the timing of the announcement. Which, I think I used the word ‘sucked,” And it did. After that interview came out, I felt the need to actually get in touch with a couple of people to clarify my position, to make sure that they knew that it’s not that I thought Grant had ownership of the role. Again, I just thought that the timing was less than appropriate. And I do.”
Then naturally, the question of Green Arrow arriving in the DCEU at some point came up, to which he responded:
“I do not have a right to Oliver Queen,” Amell said. “Someone played it played it before me. Someone voiced it before me. Somebody will play it after me. I don’t believe that there are plans for Oliver Queen in the DC Extended Universe, based off things that people have told me, but I would not be upset if that changed at all.”
