Supergirl Star Talks Shift To CW
Unlike many of the DC Comics superhero shows on CW, Supergirl didn’t start out there. In fact, it started out on CBS. However, despite a massive ratings debut, it petered out after that, and only got a second season via going to the CW. This shift caused a lot of changes both on the show and behind the scenes. Jeremy Jordon, who plays Winn Schott on the show, talked with IGN about how the switch affected the show:
“Yeah, it’s been a bit of a shift. On top of that, my character is in a completely different place. It’s been a pretty dramatic shift. It’s been a bit of a challenge being so far away from all my friends and family. But The CW is a good fit for us and our show. I think it sort of made the show a little more comic book-y and a little more fun. They don’t have to worry so much about the broad appeal. Not that it still doesn’t have it, but when you’re on CBS it becomes a lot more about, “How do we really target this giant audience?”
But we’ve been having fun while we’re away from home. Being on set has been a lot a lot more fun. You go there to be with your friends; t doesn’t feel like you’re going to work. When you’re living in the same place you’re shooting, it’s like, “Okay, I’ve gotta go to work and then I gotta go home to real life.” But here we’re in a new city, so going to work is where you know everybody. It’s been fun in that aspect.’
