Filmmaker Eric Mathis and his friends have been working on THE MACABRE, a new horror anthology to be released next year. The passion project is a throwback with practical effects and a love letter to the classics of the horror genre. Mathis’ anthology is currently running its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, and it’s already earned over three times what it asked for. THE MACABRE will contain short stories directed by Esther Goodstein, Liz Mathis, Drake Teer, Howard Wexler and Eric himself. Different Duck Films has announced their anthology horror movie Immortal will be hitting digital platforms early next month. If all horror has one common theme, it’s death — mortality is why we have a sense of fear to begin with, after all. Every anthology we’ve highlighted here focuses on it to some degree, which is what makes Immortal so unusual. Its stories are about the exact opposite. In other words, the horror of NOT dying. Different Duck, indeed. How is immortality scary anyway? They find ways. It feels like it’s been a while since we covered a horror anthology movie, but Wild Eye is finally bringing over another one. Weird Fiction is another series of shorts brought together by bridging material, but the difference between this one and the others we’ve discussed is that the shorts are all by the same person. Making a horror short is a good way to get one’s feet wet as a movie director, and that’s why these anthologies exist, but writer-director Jacob Perrett had to get his feet moist in quadruple time. All four of the stories in Weird Fiction are his. So what’ve we got? We have a group of irresponsible teens searching for a missing body. We have the classic stalker vs. babysitter yarn. We have the “scary malady” story of a man who finds a strange bite on his neck, and finally, a story about two girls who make a discovery that could lead to the world’s destruction (or not, if they can do something about it).

Uncork’d is bringing a new sci-fi flick, 5 Galaxies, to DVD and digital this December. Several anthology films have been released this year, but most of them have belonged to the horror genre. These collected shorts are all science fiction in nature, though if it’s still horror you’re after, you’ll still be satisfied as they all appear to be dystopian. Most deal with the collapse of civilization and one looks like it’ll be a riff on Logan’s Run. We don’t know much yet about Morbid Stories, the imminent indie horror anthology film from several aspiring directors. Typically these releases are accompanied by a press release, but this one lacks that. All we have to go on is a paragraph from IMDB. When death is just the beginning, how important will it be to survive the end of times? Featuring 5 horrific tales from 5 up-and-coming indie filmmakers, Morbid Stories will become the latest horror anthology to die for this Halloween. The fact that the five stories are apocalypse-themed is all that has been revealed, beyond a few clips and screenshots. Guess you’ll just have to watch it to find out how morbid the stories are. Freedom Cinema has sewn together a collection of seven delightfully gross horror shorts and is about to release them in the new anthology Blood Clots this Friday. The anthology features stories directed by Evan Hughes, Sid Zanforlin, Luke Guidici, Carl Timms, Patrick Longstreth, Timothy J. Richardson, Martyn Pick and Nick Spooner. What exactly happens in them? New York distributor Hewes Pictures, who produced the shorts, isn’t giving specifics — but they did hint at cannibals, zombies, “an awkward dinner with an ancient creature” and “a rightfully justified fear of basements.” The shorts have titles like “The Call of Charlie” and “Time To Eat.” The shorts that make up Blood Clots feature stars like Brooke Smith (“The Silence of the Lambs”), Harry Sinclair (“Lord of the Rings”), Madalina Bellariu Ion (“Young Pope”) and Kristin Slaysman (“The Last Tycoon”, “Masters of Sex”), among many others.
