How To Milk Your Dragon: Dreamworks Now Wants A Live-Action Version

The original How To Train Your Dragon, released in 2010, is still one of the best films Dreamworks ever created. An actual classic animated story, with rich worldbuilding and memorable characters, somehow came to exist during the peak of this studio’s “hire a bunch of celebrities and make snarky jokes” period. And the cream doesn’t always rise to the top with the moviegoing public, but they actually responded to HTTYD, allowing an endless number of sequels and TV spinoffs to be created. There is a ridiculous amount of material related to this film at this point. There are multiple TV shows that stretch the timeline all the way to Hiccup’s children and then even further than that into the present day. Dreamworks has milked this dragon dry. There is literally nowhere else to take the current story; they’ve done everything. But they’d have to be really desperate to stretch it out further than that, right– LIVE-ACTION TIME! Ugh. Spirit: Lucky’s Big Adventure Announced For Consoles And PC

Who would have guessed that a failed horse movie from the early 2000s would wind up being this lucrative? Dreamworks released Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron at a time in which traditional 2-D animated features were on their way out (Shrek, from their own studio, had already made his first farting appearance). Yet Spirit, these days, is somehow getting a lot more work than Shrek is. He has his own multi-season Netflix series, and soon there’ll be a Spirit video game where kids can take that light brown horse for a ride themselves. The full title is Dreamworks Spirit: Lucky’s Big Adventure, coming to consoles and PC this summer. Lucky is a little girl who lives in frontier-era America, and Spirit happens to be her horse. In the game, she’s on the hunt for hidden treasure in Miradero, but the squeaky-clean presentation will explore other themes such as “adventure, friendship and the special bond between a girl and her horse.” ● BE LUCKY – Star in a new adventure

NYCC 2018: The Definitive Dreamworks She-Ra Trailer

For The Honor Of Greyskull! Though the TV networks have long since abandoned the entire concept of action cartoons, streaming services like Netflix are more than happy to pick up the slack (and that’s a good thing). From Voltron to The Dragon Prince, they’ve been churning out some excellent toonage these days, and the streak should continue with She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. This two-minute Comic-Con trailer is the most extensive peek we’ve gotten at the series yet. As with the 1985 original, the story begins on the planet Etheria, where the evil Hordak has kidnapped He-Man’s twin sister and raised her as his own for the benefit of his world-conquering army, the Horde. When Adora is separated from the Horde and winds up with good forces, she learns the truth. This time, however, He-Man has nothing to do with her face heel turn…she meets a bunch of OTHER princesses who are fighting against Hordak and the Horde. Four New Images From Netflix’s She-Ra Reboot

In the 1980s He-Man ruled Eternia, She-Ra ruled Etheria, and both ruled children’s popular culture. Though Prince Adam has come back several times since his original show was cancelled, his twin sister hasn’t had her time in the sun again…until now. She-Ra returns this November in a new animated series, produced by Dreamworks and helmed by Noelle Stevenson. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Stevenson is a graphic novel superstar, having co-created the popular series Lumberjanes as well as a book about a shark named Nimora, which is getting an animated movie. But before that, Stevenson will be putting her stamp on She-Ra with this new take on the Filmation mythos. Princess Adora’s backstory remains the same here — as told originally in Secret of the Sword, she was taken from Eternia by an evil organzation known as the Horde, who raised her as their own in hopes she would help them conquer their own planet, Etheria. NBCUniversal Buys Out All of DreamWorks Animation

It’s official NBCUniversal/Comcast now owns DreamWorks Animation, ending the company’s independent ownership. The announcement was made today in an official press release by NBCUniversal, which is a division of the Comcast Corporation. The acquisition includes all of DreamWorks Animation’s animated brands, feature films, TV series, specials, live entertainment and related consumer products. Comcast purchased the company for the value of $3.8 billion. What does this mean for DreamWorks Animation? According to Comcast, the studio will now become part of the Universal Film Entertainment Group, alongside Universal Pictures, Fandango and NBCUniversal Brand Development. This seems to imply that DreamWorks will not completely dissolve and remain some level of autonomy. Per the official statement, NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke stated the following on the acquisition: “DreamWorks Animation is a great addition to NBCUniversal. Jeffrey Katzenberg and the DreamWorks organization have created a dynamic film brand and a deep library of intellectual property. DreamWorks will help us grow our film, television, theme parks and consumer products businesses for years to come. We have enjoyed extraordinary success

Kung Fu Panda 3: The Legends of Awesomeness Are Back

DreamWorks Animation finally returns to the Kung Fu Panda franchise with the upcoming sequel Kung Fu Panda 3 later next year. The latest trailer for the film has now been released online, offering a much broader view of the film, the main villain and story. You can check out the new video in the player below. In the new sequel, Po (Jack Black) finally meets his long lost and biological panda father, voiced by Bryan Cranston. However, this is also followed by the arrival of a new supernatural villain named Kai (voiced by J.K. Simmons) begins a reign of terror across China, defeating all the kung fu masters. Po now has a new challenge on his hands. He has to become a teacher and train his brethren of the panda village the art of Kung Fu in order to create the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas. You have to admit, Kung Fu Panda has legs, metaphorically speaking of course. From a hit movie that went on to win numerous awards, to a sequel that did very well at the box office, and a spinoff TV show that had a good run on Nickelodeon, it’s hard to say it’s not done well.
