Final Fantasy Dimensions II Releases Today On Phones
Final Fantasy comes to mobile devices — again — today with the release of Final Fantasy Dimensions II, a throwback adventure filled with world maps, turn-based battles and crystals. It’s not exactly a recreation (random battles are missing, for one thing) but it’s as close as Square will allow these days. The interesting thing about Dimensions II is that it isn’t a free-to-play game, but it started out as one. It was originally brought out two years ago in Japan under the title Final Fantasy Legends: Crystal of Space-Time. It contained much of the trappings FTP games are known for like time limits on the things you could do for free and random loot drops. The localized version has been stripped of all microtransactions and is being sold for a flat price. Sounds good, right? Well, Kotaku’s Mike Fahey didn’t think so when he reviewed the game, pointing out they’ve replaced the money-generating mechanics with nothing, making the experience feel empty to him.
