Square-Enix is doing quite the public service by creating these in-depth videos about the creation of the most beloved titles in the Final Fantasy series. Of course, there are also profit motives involved — these games just happen to have new releases on Switch and XBox — but it’s still nice. Since the most recent release was Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age, we’re getting a behind-the-scenes account of the creation of that game. A half-hour of interesting interviews with director Takashi Katano and producer Hiroaki Kato shed new light on the 2006 classic. Square announced today their upcoming re-releases of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age and Final Fantasy X / X-2: HD Remaster, this time coming to Nintendo Switch and XBox One, are open for preorder. Final Fantasy X / X-2 is the same remaster that debuted on the PS3, only with slightly better performance due to being on more powerful hardware. Final Fantasy XII is new to HD this generation, and has a number of improvements over its original release, including these: License Reset Function: By talking to Clan Centurio’s leader Montblanc in Rabanastre, players can reset and change their party member’s jobs, allowing them to customize the jobs of their party as desired. Additional Gambit Sets: Gambits allow players to customize their party’s AI. Players can now create three unique sets, allowing players to switch between sets for different situations, such as map exploration or boss fights. For many people, Final Fantasy XII is one of their favorites in the series, and they’ve been waiting for the super-duper HD remastering for quite some time. There’s been an even longer wait for the PC version. Now at last everybody will have everything, as Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age becomes available for PCs today. But was there really an advantage to waiting that long? ..There actually was. PC gamers will get some extra features that weren’t in the console remaster of FFXII and definitely weren’t in the 2006 original. Playing it on the PC will give you the ability to view your surroundings in Super Triple Cinemascope by chaining together three monitors, giving you a complete 48:9 all-encompassing view.
