Warhammer Skulls Event Reveals Three New Games

Games Workshop held its annual Warhammer Skulls event today and revealed many dew details about the future of Warhammer. The largest bits of info were the reveals of three brand-new Warhammer video games, each from a separate genre. First off, a Warhammer RPG is on the way from Owlcat Games, the makers of Pathfinder. The game will be called Rogue Trader and it will be set from an overhead three-quarters perspective, with turn-based combat and four team members: the Rogue Trader mentioned in the title, a Space Wolf, a Sister of Battle and an Aeldari Ranger. Rouge Trader will be out at an unspecified time. The other two were given 2023 release windows, so we must assume this one won’t be finished until later than that. Games Workshop has a lot of Warhammer-related announcements they’ve been holding back on, in anticipation of releasing them all at one event: the Warhammer Skulls Showcase. The press event will return this June for its sixth year. Here’s what we can expect: GW has confirmed new trailers and behind-the-scenes videos for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will be released. Upcoming content for Total War: Warhammer III, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector and Warhammer: Vermintide 2 will also be revealed. Most of these things will be unveiled during the Announcement Showcase, scheduled for June 1 at 10 AM Pacific / 1 PM Eastern. Keep twitch.tv/warhammer bookmarked because that’ll be the place to see it. Hosting the event will be Clive Standen, voice actor of Titus in Space Marine 2. Once the showcase ends, the celebration continues for about a week, as most popular Warhammer titles will be discounted…or possibly updated. Last June Warhammer Chaosbane launched for Playstation 4, XBox One and PC. The man who composed the soundtrack for that game was Chance Thomas, a professional whose resume includes games like DOTA 2, The Lord of the Rings Online and King Kong. PlayFusion and Games Workshop have announced that the digital version of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Champions will arrive on Nintendo Switch April 16. Games Workshop has announced Skulls for the Skull Throne, a new cross-game event that introduces new DLCs for its Warhammer games and reduces their cost. There have been plenty of gaming franchises based on properties owned by Games Workshop over the past decade, including the likes of Warhammer 40,000 and Blood Bowl, but there has been little interest ever shown in Mordheim. This tabletop game is similar to the Warhammer series but more focused on smaller skirmishes and includes role-playing elements and a campaign structure. Now Rogue Factor have taken the property and created a tactical role-playing game that was first released for PC last year but has now been ported to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. A user on the Total War fansite TWCenter who has received the official art book that is due to release January 23, claims that it confirms the developer is working on Total War: Warhammer. The book quotes the creative director of the series Mike Simpson as saying: “…taking the series to a fantasy setting with Total War: Warhammer.” Considering that the book launches next week and Total War: Atilla is due to launch in February, it is likely that an official announcement will happen within the next few days.
