Borderlands 2 was, and still is, an amazing game. The sequel to the surprise hit from Gearbox brought a lot of new players to the world of Pandora, and it’s a world that is filled with life, action, and Easter Eggs. But, one of the most interesting Easter Eggs in the game is an NPC called Michael Mamaril. You likely won’t know his name (barring you hearing it from other Borderlands 2 players), but his story is touching. Basically, there was a young man named Michael Mamaril, he and his friends loved playing Borderlands, and so when Michael died at the age of 22, a friend asked Gearbox for a eulogy done by a Borderlands character. But, they decided to up the ante as it were and not just do the Eulogy, but make Michael a part of the game itself. A truly stirring tribute from a company to a sadly departed gamer. The Borderlands movie that Lionsgate took on last year finally has a screenwriter and a producer. Aaron Berg, who was responsible for creating the script for Section 6, will be tasked with writing duties on the R-rated movie. Meanwhile, Arad Productions will take on the producing role, giving the movie the backing of people who have worked on films such as Iron Man, The Amazing Spider-Man and Ghost Rider. Borderlands first hit store shelves in October 2009. It has since become something of a fan favorite despite less-than-stellar reviews and Gearbox Software’s biggest success to date. The action role-playing games see players exploring locations such as Pandora as they seek to prevent the release of deadly weapons or other disasters. The gameplay largely revolves around the looting of weapons and gear, though had a rather tepid plot that wouldn’t seem to easily lend itself to a movie adaptation. Gearbox’s next big project, Battleborn, was on full display for attendees to play at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. This title was getting a great deal of positive buzz online, so I was very curious to finally check it out and see what the game is really about. Based on the playable demo that was available, Battleborn appears to be an eclectic mix of multiple game genres. It is hard to really classify the title. It definitely has a different play style and feel than a game like Borderlands. However, it absolutely has the signature Gearbox style and sense of humor that is very reminiscent of Borderlands. While day one patches have been around this the launch of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the current generation of consoles seems to have taken the practice to the extreme. Almost every game that is released now sees a patch made available to download and Gearbox’s latest title, Borderlands: The Handsome Jack Collection, is not different. The remastering of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will require users to download a day one update if they want to remain online while playing the game. PlayStation 4 players will be asked to download an update that is just over 8GB while Xbox One users face a 16GB. Considering that co-operative play is such an integral part of the franchise’s experience, the majority of players will almost definitely want to download this rather large patch. The large size is put down to it containing not just bug fixes and performance enhancements but also several pieces of content that could not be placed on the disc. Take-Two Interactive has released a brand new trailer for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The video, which can be seen above, is entitled Last Hope and introduces several new characters to the series as well as the now-famous Claptrap. As part of the latest announcement, it was revealed that the game will take advantage of new PC hardware. Those using high-end graphics cards will be able to experience much higher fidelity and performance, unlike other games in the franchise. The publisher has also released two behind the scenes videos showing how the game has been made. Part 1 of the documentary and Part 2 are both available on YouTube. There will be additional episodes made available in the future according to Take-Two. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is the latest game in the Borderlands series. A prequel was chosen as Gearbox did not have a suitable idea for making Borderlands 3 yet and they were aware that fans would want a sequel to be much bigger and better than its predecessor. Gearbox Announce Battleborn The developers behind the Borderlands series have today revealed their first original franchise since Borderlands launched as Gearbox announce Battleborn. Revealed as the cover story for the next issue of Game Informer, Battleborn is described as “a fusion of first-person shooting and loot-grabbing RPG elements in a living comic book art style” which doesn’t sound too far flung from Gearbox’s most popular Borderlands series. Here’s the announcement trailer for Battleborn. According to the reveal post on the Game Informer website, Gearbox is looking to “change your perception of genres” with Battleborn, and there is also a mention of borrowing elements from popular MOBA games like League of Legends or Defense of the Ancients (DOTA). The original Borderlands was a pretty unique concept brought to market by developer Gearbox, a loot loaded RPG with shooter gameplay wrapped in a cartoonish presentation. Borderlands sold well and received fantastic support through DLC, but the formula clearly had room for improvement. Fast forward to 2012 and few games this year have garnered as much hype and interest as Borderlands 2, but now that its been released does the finished product validate all those high expectations? Hell yes it does! Right at the start of Borderlands 2 you’re thrown back onto the harsh world of Pandora, but there have been some changes since our last visit. It seems that today Sega made an official announcement on the finalized contents of both the Limited and Collector’s edition of  Alien’s Colonial Marines. Sadly for us, it’s not in English quite yet.  From what we can gather though, fans of the movie are going to flip their lids at some of the content being provided here. The Limited Edition will come with four playable movie characters in the form of Private Hudson, Corporal Hicks, Private Drake and Sergeant Apone, along with some special customization options for your Marine. Lastly, you’ll also get your hands on the duct taped Pulse Rifle + Flamethrower that Ripley used on her trip into the Alien hive near the end of the film.
