Playdead co-founder Dino Patti, who helped create both critically acclaimed games Limbo and Inside, has started a new studio to develop the upcoming Somerville. The sci-fi adventure game is the first title created by Jumpship, a new UK-based development team headed up by Patti and Chris Olsen, a film animator who has worked on projects such as Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Developer Playdead has previously only ever created one game before, the excellent and much-acclaimed 2D platformer Limbo. Their latest effort is Inside, a 2D platformer that sees a young boy travel through a dark and foreboding world with an emphasis on minimalist mechanics and creating a terrifying atmosphere. If that sounds familiar, it is because it is essentially the same premise of Limbo. So how does Inside distinguish itself from its predecessor and can it live up to some very weighty expectations?
Inside, the next game from the heralded developer PlayDead, who made the much beloved game Limbo, has finally gotten a release date of June 29 for Xbox One and July 7 on Steam, as ID@Xbox head Chris Charla announced at Microsoft’s 2016 E3 press conference.
Those who bought an Xbox One near to its original release are set to receive a free copy of Limbo for the console. CVG reports that over the weekend they received a code to download the game through email from Microsoft with a note that other early adopters would also receive a code. It is currently unknown whether the code will only be available to those who got the console on day one or if it has a wider set of dates that makes gamers eligible.
Limbo, the popular 2D puzzle platformer, may be heading to an Xbox One release according to the Korean Game Rating Board. The site for the rating board has classified the game suggesting that the game will see a release on Microsoft’s console in the near future. Both the developer behind the game and Microsoft have made no announcement about a release of the game on next generation consoles and a spokesperson declined to comment when asked about the classification by GameSpot.
Holy crap, this might be the best out of all the Humble Bundles so far. Limbo, Sword & Sorcery, Amnesia the Dark Descent, Bastion, and Psychonauts. All for as much or as little as you want to spend while helping charity out at the same time. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s time I played Bastion.
