“Suffer The Little Children” Will Be The Next Stephen King Film
“It” is a big smash! It’s wowed critics, charmed audiences, and burned up the box office, earning $132 million during its opening weekend. That’s the most lucrative opening a King movie has ever had…..and it’s also one of the highest-earning openings of any September movie in history, the best opening day ever for a horror movie, and the second-highest-grossing opening for an R-rated film (behind Deadpool). Stephen King movies have remained a long staple of Hollywood, mainly because just when you figure they’re out of steam, one of them becomes a megahit and reinvigorates studio interest. To date 33 adaptions of King’s writing have made it to the big screen. If you count smaller screens, that number balloons to 60, including the upcoming Gerald’s Game for Netflix. A 34th adaption seems inevitable now. And indeed, mere hours after “It”‘s record-shattering earnings hit the press, the next King adaptation was announced: “Suffer The Little Children,” based on the short story of the same name from 1972. The premise is basically “it”
