Action Comics #1 is considered the most valuable comic book on this entire planet, as no other single issue was more influential. It’s the comic that introduced Superman for the first time, using the now-iconic image of him lifting a car at a diagonal angle. In 1938, 200,000 copies of this issue were printed. Only 100 are estimated to survive today. Of those 100, even fewer are in decent condition, like the one that Heritage Auctions put up for sale this week. The slabbed copy was given an 8.5 grade by the CGC and mentioned the following imperfections: a small tear at the top of the spine, a small crease in the top left of the back cover, a tear with a crease on the top of the front cover, and light staple rust. Security has been pretty tight on WB’s Superman Legacy; no one really knows what the plot is or what the film’s about other than “Superman is in it.” It’s kind of important that they get it right: it’s supposed to launch the revamped DCU and a zillion films in its wake, and it has to do that WHILE fighting the well-documented “superhero fatigue” at the box office. But if anyone can pull that off, it’s James Gunn, who managed to produce a blockbuster superhero film (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) in a year when everything else failed. The hiring of Gunn may be the only smart thing that’s ever happened in the Zaslav Administration. Anyway, Gunn had an update yesterday: a small one, but an update nonetheless. Who guessed that the miracle fourth season of Superman And Lois on The CW would also be its last? If you did, congratulations, you win a leftover candy apple from three days ago. Everyone expected The CW’s new owners Nexstar to dump any and all traces of mildly budgeted superhero-based content the network was formerly known for, but they threw us a curveball by renewing this one. We weren’t sure how, then we found out: the budget was slashed to the point where the only regular characters are Superman, Lois and the boys. Lex Luthor made his first appearance toward the end of Season 3, and they’re keeping him along with Doomsday…but that’s it for the regular payroll. We’re not sure who our heroes are going to talk to besides each other, or how they’re going to explain how empty Smallville is now.   Gal Gadot, was pretty much unknown, starred  as Wonder Woman in DCEU. It became the highest-grossing film directed by a woman, raking in an impressive $822,854,286 at the box office. However, the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, had a limited theater release due to the pandemic. It made $169,601,036, but it found success on HBO Max. During an interview for her Netflix film Heart of Stone, Gal Gadot confirmed that Wonder Woman 3 is in development, much to the delight of her fans. Despite the reboot, she will continue in the iconic role. However, Patti Jenkins, who was involved in the first two movies, will not return due to creative differences with James Gunn’s vision. Speaking of James Gunn, he fired Henry Cavill, seemingly holding him responsible for the box office failure of Black Adam. Yesterday The CW made the surprise announcement that it was renewing Warner Bros’ Superman And Lois for a fourth season, despite having no money. It was speculated that the show would undergo a budget reduction to make this possible, which would include a culling of the regular cast members. And wow, they sure did. 24 hours later, every actor except five has been given pink slips. Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent/Superman), Elizabeth Tulloch (Lois Lane), Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent) and Michael Bishop (Jonathan Kent) are remaining, and Michael Cudlitz (Lex Luthor) is being promoted to regular after guest-starring in the last few episodes of the current season. Anyone who isn’t those five no longer has a steady job: Dylan Walsh (General Sam Lane), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Mayor Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing), Inde Navarrette (Sarah Lang), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons) and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo). My Adventures With Superman is just one of several projects WB has in the pipe for its DC brand…but not all projects are equal. As we’ve covered before, the company has plans to eventually unify its movie and TV productions into one shared, connected DC Universe, with the guidance of former Guardians of the Galaxy mastermind James Gunn. What does that mean, though, for everything that has come before? Including this new cartoon, which isn’t part of the new universe? The solution should be obvious to anyone who went and saw a certain Spider-Man movie this weekend. WB’s Max has grouped everything DC has produced for TV and film into one category called the DC Multiverse. They provided us a list of everything that can be found there. We’ve known WB’s My Adventures With Superman was coming since 2021. And up to now, that’s about all we’ve known. The studio has been very tight-lipped about when to expect it and even where it will show up (Cartoon Network? Adult Swim? HBO…er, Max?) Turns out two of those were right. My Adventures With Superman will premiere on Adult Swim July 6, WB announced this morning. A day later, the premiere episode will be watchable on Max. The episode will also rerun on Toonami that following Saturday. The rest of the episodes will debut weekly in the same fashion. It’s worth noting it seems to be taking the time slots of Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, so that series will likely have finished its run at that point. Two years ago, back when Warner Bros’ prospects were a bit sunnier, the studio announced a range of superhero-based cartoons, such as Batman: Caped Crusader and My Adventures With Superman. Then Zaslav came in and massacred the whole business. Caped Crusader managed to live thanks to a deal with Amazon Prime, but no one heard anything about the Superman cartoon since, and most people assumed it’d been shut down. Guess not — here’s footage of it, with a promise of an imminent release. At the time of announcement it also wasn’t known where the cartoon was meant to wind up. The general assumption was either HBO Max or Cartoon Network, in a deal where it’d appear on one and then the other later. The fact that it’s Adult Swim getting this is a bit of a surprise. Can’t remember seeing Russell Crowe on a football field? Well, in 2000, while playing rugby, Henry Cavill (Superman) met with Crowe who was filming Proof of Life on a location at Stowe.
