PopGeeks recently had the chance to sit down and speak with music composer Austin Wintory. Wintory is an award-winning veteran who has worked on such big franchises as Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. He also received a Grammy Award nomination for his work on Journey, which marked the first time a video game score was ever nominated for a Grammy Award. His other credits include The Banner Saga and ABZU. Here’s what Wintory had to say about working on music in the gaming industry. PopGeeks: Were you ever much into video games before you started making music for them? Austin Wintory:  Without a doubt yes! Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Gets A Publisher

Obsidian Entertainment’s Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire now has a publisher. The developer has announced that the sequel to their 2015 hit RPG will be distributed by Versus Evil, who are perhaps best known for publishing The Banner Saga series. The news is slightly surprising considering that Paradox Interactive recently handled publishing duties for the first game when it released on home consoles.  “We are thrilled to be working with the team at Versus Evil on Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, the first sequel we’ve ever made into one of our own IPs,” said Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart. There’s also still no announcement about an exact release date other than that the team are working towards an early 2018 launch. It is currently unknown whether the title will also make it onto the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It will likely depend on how successful the release of its predecessor was on these platforms.

Any game that is made will have corrections and improvements that can be done. Whether they get done though is up to the developer. In the case of Stoic studios and The Banner Saga 2, they made sure that they not only made improvements, but they were improvements requested by the actual players of the Banner Saga. The team took a lot of time looking at these critiques and feedback, and in an interview with Game Watcher, revealed what that turned into: “We’ve watched a ton of Lets Plays, heard a lot of unvarnished feedback, and most people thought the game was really good and wanted more,” said Arnie Jorgensen, Art Director at Stoic, “Therefore we didn’t want to rethink the whole thing or give players brand new systems so it’ll feel like you’re flowing right from the first game into the second. We’ve done some major improvements to combat. The feedback we received suggested that players loved the combat but after a while they thought it got monotonous. So
