Thundercats go! Many 80s cartoons experience a revival in the pop culture map because of Live-action adaptations. Transformers and G.I Joe are great examples. The results are polarizing to old-school fans but they are box office hits. There are also epic failures like Jem and the Holograms that are not only a box office flop but got hated by the fans. Thundercats is one of the most beloved IPs back in the 80s. It is an action cartoon about feline humanoids who escapes the destruction of their planet and decided to find refuge on Earth and be its defenders. There had been multiple attempts to revive Thundercats. First is a 2011 anime which is a grittier and darker reboot of the show. It was well-received by fans but sadly it didn’t sell merchandise and its ratings are lackluster which leads to cancelation. Cartoon Network Brings Back ThunderCats with their new ThunderCats Roar Animated Series

The ThunderCats are back again! However, they are not coming back the way you may think. Cartoon Network is giving the franchise the Teen Titians GO treatment with their upcoming animated series entitled ThunderCats Roar. Warner Bros. Animation recently announced the new cartoon series via Entertainment Weekly. This is not the first time we had a ThunderCats reboot. ThunderCats began as a franchise in the mid 1980s with the original series airing from 1985 to 1989. It followed the adventures of the ThunderCats, a race of humanoid cats from Thundera, who found refuge on Third Earth. After the series ended, fans of the show had to wait two decades before they could continue watching Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, Snarf, WilyKit, WilyKat, and their friends as they saved the world from Mumm-Ra and the Plun-Darrians. The 2011 series ran for one season before being canceled to the dismay of fans. Today, fans of the franchise do not have to wait as long, but they are also not getting the show they remember.

Thundercats and Masters of the Universe Comic Coming

Two classic cartoons and toy properties of the 1980s are coming together for one big, awesome comic crossover in Thundercats and Masters of the Universe. DC Comics officially announced this week a comic crossover for the properties called He-Man/Thundercats. The heroes and villains for both stories will cross over for an awesome showdown. The crossover debuts in October published by DC Entertainment on behalf of Warner Bros. Consumer Products. This crossover is 30 years in the making. The crossover is being written by Mattel Head Writer and Masters of the Universe Lead Creative Rob David and Supervising Producer Lloyd Goldfine. Artist Freddie Williams II (Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) is handling the pencils and cover art for the book. Speaking on the announcement, DC EIC Bob Harras: “The Masters of the Universe and the ThunderCats are both global phenomena, beloved by millions.
