Rebel Moon, Zack Snyder’s would-be Star Wars that received an infinite-money budget from Netflix to be made, will be out very soon — and today was the day the embargo was lifted on reviews. And woof, they’re howling. Almost no one who pre-screened Snyder’s space epic seems to like it, with most citing derivative and tropey plot beats, wooden dialogue, and an overall sense of blandness to the presentation. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman says the movie steals not just from Star Wars but from every popular sci-fi and fantasy movie of the last fifty years, yet does nothing fresh or interesting with what it pilfered. He expressed doubt that the film would attract attention beyond Snyder’s usual fanbase. “Rebel Moon, while eminently watchable, is a movie built so entirely out of spare parts that it may, in the end, be for Snyder cultists only.” Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier was a bit kinder, but still couldn’t recommend it: “Rebel Moon has long speeches about loyalty, family, honor, purpose, all kinds of things. Netflix has had a lot of projects in the fire lately, but this is the big one — their most ambitious offering of 2023, premiering nine days before the end of the year itself. It’s ridiculously expensive, carrying a price tag of $166 million for the production of two films (this is just Part One). We may be nearing the end of the age when streamers will spend Infinity Dollars on one project, but Rebel Moon is quite a loud way to go out. However, will it be good? One of Netflix’s largest projects to date is Rebel Moon, a big, expensive, super-long sci-fi movie created by Zack Snyder and based on ideas he had for a Star Wars film. The movie is set to hit the streamer in December, but before then, a tabletop RPG was set for release that would establish the setting and world. Those plans have now been scrapped. Netflix has yanked the project from Evil Genius, the TTRPG publisher that was working on it for over a year. Evil Genius, in turn, has filed a lawsuit claiming breach of contract, and are fighting for the right to release the game. For Evil Genius, the stakes are high. They say there are other high-profile projects they were offered but turned down because the Rebel Moon TTRPG took up all their time. The product was pretty much close to done at the time of termination, and included a 430-page Player’s Guide and a 337-page Game Master’s Guide. “Rebel Moon” is a world that is built by Zack Snyder, and my eyes are feasting and liking what I see. This could have been a box office success movie, but it’s only on Netflix. Remember how fans rallied for Snyder’s “Justice League” Cut? The result was a mesmerizing 5-hour film. Even movies like “300,” where I’m usually creeped out by bare-chested men, held me sit thtough due to Snyder’s direction. He is a story teller like no other. He just made an announcement from his official twitter account.     His latest film is Army of the Dead, An action horror film starring David Bautista.Bautista is a former WWE Superstar who has been in a roll at Hollywood, Following the Footsteps of Dwayne Johnson and John Cena. Joining him is the Iconic Japanese actor Hiroyuki Sanada, Ana de la Reguera,  Garret Dillahunt and Ella Purnell. The movie is about a group of Mercenaries who are sent to Las Vegas to recover $200 Million. Sounds easy but here is the catch, Las Vegas has been through a Zombie outbreak. These are no ordinary undead because they are faster and more intelligent! They seem to communicate with each other as well because they are more strategic and organized. After Disney and Marvel released The Avengers in 2012, every other studio wanted their own Avengers….but the only competition that owned an equivalent already was Warner Bros. As you know, Warner Bros. has finally bowed to demand and agreed to put the Snyder Cut of Justice League into production. It’s an undertaking of great expense, with some estimates putting the re-edit at $60 million — and it may be released in pieces as a result. WB hasn’t decided exactly how they’re going to roll out this version of the film but they do know it’s premiering on their new streaming service HBO Max. It’s not as simple as firing up the Moviola. Special effects have to be redone, CGI backgrounds have to be re-rendered, and in some cases the original actors have to be brought back in to film additional scenes. Those guys don’t work cheap!
