The Last Guardian Was Saved by Fans' Desire to Play It
The Last Guardian, from the team that made Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, has been mired in delays, setbacks, tech problems, and more. Despite being announced originally last decade, we haven’t played it. Usually such delays would lead to the game getting cancelled (and there were numerous reports over the years saying it was), but this past E3, it was back. And the game has a release date next year. So what made it keep going? The fans.
Shuhei Yoshida told Videogamer the following about The Last Guardian and its journey:
“[It was] really, really tough. Especially because we were not sure if the game could be made,” he said. “Tech issues aside, the game was still early in development, so we had to have a really strong desire to continue the project and rebuild on PS4. And of course we believed in the vision of Ueda-san, and Ueda-san and the core teams really wanted to see this realised, and so did I. Having so many people asking us about the game was great encouragement for us to continue the development.”
So the fans are responsible for keeping the game alive. Fans should never stop believing because one day your desire for a game or title might just come true. The Last Guardian arrives in 2016 for the PlayStation 4.
