The Tick: New Series Greenlit for Amazon Prime
It’s official, The Tick is coming back to TV. Amazon Studios officially announced today that blue superhero is making a comeback in a live-action TV series for Amazon Prime. The show is slated to debut in early 2017 for Amazon Prime members.
The show stems from the earlier live-action pilot that was produced starring Peter Serafinowicz, Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, Yara Martinez, and Brendan Hines. The new show is being executive produced by Ben Edlund, who created the original Tick comics, along with Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld. The pilot was directed by Wally Pfister and was written by Edlund. Sony Pictures TV is co-producing the show.
According to Amazon’s announcement today, Peter Serafinowicz will be back to star as the titular blue dim-witted hero for the series. The show was picked up along with two other series, I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson.
In the new TV series, superheroes have been real for decades, and an underdog accountant who has no powers comes to realize his city is owned by a super-villain who has long believed to have been dead. As he struggles to unravel this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero called The Tick.
