The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Exceeds Over 1 Million Pre-Orders Before Release
CD Projekt Red, the Polish-based developer behind The Witcher video game franchise, has confirmed that the highly anticipated sequel, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has already reached a huge sales milestone ahead of the game’s release in just over a week. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has officially exceeded more than one million pre-orders.
The number of pre-orders is across the globe. It is indicative that the game will be a huge hit when the game hits the shelves. Just for comparison, the last game in the franchise, The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, only sold about 820,000 copies on Xbox 360 and about 890,000 copies for Windows PC (per VGChartz.com). The good news for The Witcher 3 is that it will also be available for PlayStation 4, so there will be an even larger sales base of players this time around. It really appears that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will ultimately smash The Witcher 2 in terms of hard sales.
Needless to say, CD Projekt Red was very happy on the news. In an official statement, the company’s co-founder, Marcin Iwinski, stated on the announcement: “We’ve crossed the 1 million pre-order milestone and it’s all thanks to you guys! We would like to thank all the gamers for their trust and support. This is the last stretch and we’re pushing hard — over the last two weeks, we’ve increased performance on all platforms and started working full speed on the expansions, Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine.”
Despite a number of release delays, the momentum for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has continued to build. Last week, late night talk show host Conan O’Brien played the game in an edition of “Clueless Gamer” for Conan. He humorously gave the game a ringing endorsement. Not to mention, CD Projekt Red will offer players 16 pieces of free DLC for every person who owns copy of the game, which will be released in pairs on a weekly basis started May 20.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hits the shelves on May 19. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
