This Collector’s Edition Of Resident Evil 2 Costs $900
The Useless Items Arms Race the gaming industry is currently locked in has produced its latest monstrosity. Presenting the Resident Evil 2 Collector’s Edition, packing in $900 worth of merchandise relating to the upcoming remake of the survival horror classic.
Inside you’ll find the Resident Evil 2 game, an artbook, the soundtrack CD, an official STARS badge, a Raccoon Police Station poster, and a 12″ statue of protagonist Leon Kennedy. All these things are also included in a downsized Collector’s Edition that costs $225. So what makes this particular one worth over $500 more? Let’s get to its central item….
Admittedly, this IS kind of cool…maybe not $900 cool, but nifty nonetheless. It’s a fully functional computer keyboard made up to look like the mechanical typewriter you had to save your game on in early Resident Evil games. You can plug it into your computer and use it just like a normal keyboard. Our favorite authentic detail is the “Umbrella Corporation” branding on the side.
We have one question though…where will you find enough typewriter ribbons to use it? ….Capcom thought of that and the box has those. Replicas, at least: Four rolls of masking tape made to look like the rolls hidden in Resident Evil 2. Each one has its own RE-related design: STARS logos, “KEEP OUT” police tape, blood-stained typed messages, and cinematic stills from the game.
All this may not be worth $900 to you. If this package comes out Stateside, perhaps the price will be lowered. One can hope. Resident Evil 2 will be out for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC January 25, 2019.
