This is Why Beyond Good And Evil 2 Is Taking So Long
In 2003 Ubisoft’s star game designer, Michel Ancel, created what many consider to be his best game to date: Beyond Good And Evil for the Playstation 2, XBox and Gamecube. People have been begging the company for a sequel for the past 13 years, and the response has always been…..maybe.
As Ancel explained today in a new Instagram post, he and his crew have been working off and on building Beyond Good And Evil 2 this entire time, but they had features in mind that last-gen technology just couldn’t support. This is why a little teaser skit for BG&E 2 appeared in 2008 but was followed by complete silence.
What did Ancel want that was so important? The ability to travel through space and visit other planets. “We wanted planet exploration, space travel, cities… All this was also supposed to be in BGE 1,” he said in the post that also brought us the above sketch (which Ancel says was made for the last-gen version). “The game was playable with many prototypes.”
Michel goes on to say in bad English that his team had to move on and create a few 2D Rayman games (such as Origins) while waiting for technology to catch up to their vision. According to him, now it has! “We still have loooooots of work but now the tech is ready and the team is fantastic!”
Little is known about BG&E 2 beyond what Ancel has leaked out, but I’m pleased to report there should be trailers and game footage in our future….eventually.
