Ubisoft Purchases Guitar Hero Live Dev From Activision
Ubisoft has bought the developer behind Guitar Hero Live and DJ Hero from Activision. UK-based FreeStyleGames will now be integrated within the French publisher and be renamed to Ubisoft Leamington.
According to Ubisoft, the studio will work directly with Ubisoft Reflections on their products. This developer has previously contributed to games such as The Crew and The Division but is probably more known for its work on creating the Grow Home series of games. However, the company is not as big as it once was as it faced a number of layoffs recently while still part of Activision.
Activision has also made it clear that they will be continuing support for Guitar Hero Live for the foreseeable future. In a statement, the publisher said:
“We can confirm that FreeStyleGames has been integrated within Ubisoft’s global network of development studios. We would like to thank the very talented team at FreeStyleGames for their many years of creative partnership and wish them well as they begin a new chapter in the studio’s history.
“Activision Blizzard remains fully committed to the UK games industry, and our teams based across the UK. The Guitar Hero TV platform will continue to be supported by Activision Publishing.”
