Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble Receive New Season Renewals for Disney XD
Wonder no longer because Disney XD has confirmed renewals for the hit animated shows Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble on the network. Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man will return for a fourth season on the network next year (2016). The show will be re-dubbed, Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6 similar to how season three was renamed Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors. In addition, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble will return now titled as Marvel’s Avengers: Ultron Revolution. Based on the titles one can imagine Season Four of Ultimate Spider-Man will feature everyone’s favorite web-slinging hero Spider-Man facing his enemies the Sinister Six. Avengers: Ultron Revolution will of course likely feature as the malevolent AI robot Ultron as the enemy. Previously, Ultron appeared as a villain with a multi-episode arc in Season Two of Avengers Assemble, which is still ongoing. Both new seasons are currently in production by Marvel TV for Disney XD.
Besides Ultron, Marvel’s press release indicated that in the new season the Avengers will also encounter threats from Baron Zemo, the Masters of Evil, the Inhumans and Kang the Conqueror. In addition, other heroes such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and Ms. Marvel will all appear. The press release also indicated that Civil War coming, or as the press release puts it, “an all-out Marvel super hero Civil War.” It will be interesting to see how that subplot evolves next season. Season Two featured some discord between Captain America and Iron Man and an effective split of the team that was orchestrated by Ultron. However, the heroes ultimately put aside their differences to bring the team back together.
Season Four of Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6 will feature a more confident Spider-Man now fighting alongside The Avengers and leading a team of heroes at SHIELD Academy. Unfortunately for the Webhead, his greatest enemies, Doctor Octopus and Hydra are working together to destroy Spider-Man and SHIELD. Spider-Man teams up with a new team of Spiders to face this threat, this team includes, Miles Morales, Agent Venom, Iron Spider and the mysterious new character Scarlet Spider. In Season Three, the Miles Morales version of Spider-Man was introduced in the Web Warriors story arc, voiced by Donald Glover. Spider-Man meets him after traveling through dimensions to stop the Green Goblin. Also in Season Three, teenaged scientist and super genius Amadeus Cho takes on the mantle of Iron Spider after acquiring Spider-Man’s Iron Spider armor built by Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
Speaking on the renewals, Disney XD SVP of Programming and GM Marc Buhaj stated: “We’re delighted that Disney XD is partnering with the world-class Marvel team to bring our viewers new installments featuring the Avengers and Spider-Man, some of the world’s most iconic and engaging comic book characters. In these new animated seasons we are looking forward to even higher stakes, bigger threats and the trademark quality storytelling that Marvel is famous for.”
Marvel Animation Studios Vice President Stephen Wacker added: “These series have been the heart and soul of Marvel Animation for several seasons and, thanks to Marc and his top-notch crew at Disney XD, we’re thrilled to bring our fans more episodes of what they’ve been clamoring for. It’s a testament to the hard work and creative effort of our production and writing teams that Marvel’s animation slate continues to roll onwards and upwards.”
All the main voice cast members for Avengers Assemble will be returning in their roles for Season Three. Jeff Allen serves as Supervising Director and Eugene Son and Dani Wolff serve as Co-Story Editors on the series.
All the main voice cast members of Ultimate Spider-Man will also be back for Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6. Alex Soto is set as the Supervising Director, with Kevin Burke and Doc Wyatt serving as Co-Story Editors.
The press release did not indicate how many episodes the new seasons would have. However, all previous seasons of Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble were 26 episodes each. Alan Fine, Dan Buckley Joe Quesada and Jeph Loeb will executive produce both shows. Stan Lee, Eric Radomski, Cort Lane and Stephen Wacker are credited as co-executive producers for the series.
