Update: It’s Official, Farewell To Zipper Interactive
Earlier this week, we posted a rumour regarding the demise of Zipper Interactive. That rumour has turned into truth today with one tweet from the official Zipper Twitter feed. More inside.
Earlier tonight, we finally got confirmation as to the fate of Zipper Interactive, developers of the Socom series and most recently, Unit 13. It seems as though this is the end for the once powerful developer after 17 great years.
Here’s the single tweet that ended all speculation:
“After 17 years it’s time to head off into the sunset. A sincere thank you to all our fans for everything you’ve done for us. Farewell.”
It’s definitely sad to see another great developer shutting down after having such magic on the PlayStation 2 with multiple games in their Socom series. It seems Zipper just couldn’t find any rhythm on the PlayStation 3 with MAG never performing up to expectations after being over-hyped for a long period of time and Socom 4 not living up to the very high and perhaps unrealistic expectations of the rabid fanbase. Unit 13 was well-received however and just might have been a turning point had Zipper been given another chance but, the writing was already on the wall.
Farewell, Zipper Interactive and thank you for all the memories you definitely gave to gamers everywhere. Good luck to all the talented folks who are now looking for work, I’m sure you all won’t be looking for very long.
