Weekly Japanese Sales Charts – “Golden Week”
Nintendo, particually the 3DS, seem to be the big winners this week…
“Golden Week” is a Japanese holiday, notably the longest consecutive holiday period for many. Several companies even close down completely allowing their workers to spend time with family or even travel. It’s also a time to invest in their hobbies and interests so naturally video game hardware and software generally see a spike in sales…

No new releases this week, but Mario Party 9 takes the top spot from Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City which takes a rapid drop in units sold. It’s also worth noting that the 3DS claims 11 out of the top 20, including Wii this number climbs to 15/20. A very Nintendo week indeed!

Not much change on the hardware front except a huge leap in 3DS sales, which is impressive with no new release. The Vita interestingly drops back down to 10k units after its first rise in sales since launch.
