Wii Fit U Free For 30 Days
Nintendo’s latest direct focused on Wii Fit U and a somewhat shocking new business model Nintendo is trying.
While many of the more hardcore among us couldn’t care less about Nintendo’s flagship fitness title that swept a nation by storm, but it’s still a very big deal. It makes fitness easy and accessible with that Nintendo flair that makes coming back again and again very enjoyable. For fitness longevity is key and by providing something that feels like fun to work to it usually achieves it’s goals.
A whopping 77 activities will be available in the game with 19 of those new training activities which even take advantage of the Wii U’s unique GamePad. New dancing and rhythm games are introduced as well as making a customized workout schedule. Miiverse is of course supported here, and you can sound off among other fitness fiends to share tips and encourage one another.
The most interesting development though is that the whole game will be downloadable for free starting November 1st and running through January 31st 2014. As long as you have a balance board you’ll be able to enjoy the full game for an entire month for free and if you decide you enjoy the game at the end of that time you can keep it for good by purchasing the Fit Meter.
The Fit Meter is at it’s root a pedometer that you wear on your wrist, but one that tracks your everyday activity. It keeps tracks of the steps along with the amount of calories you’ve burned and even altitude to let you know if you were going uphill so it can adjust the calories burned based on the activity. All of this information then syncs wirelessly to Wii Fit U via the GamePad with the touch of a button. The whole thing is suggested to cost $20 dollars which is actually a fantastic price for all the features you get from it alone, not to mention the free software that comes with it’s purchase.
Of course for those of you who don’t take with downloadable titles the standalone retail copy will be available December 13th. I for one am impressed by the steps Nintendo is taking to get this into the hands of gamers and non gamers alike. Sure, you have to have the balance board already on hand, but 20 dollars for a pedometer and a software of this magnitude with an official Nintendo stamp on it is a fantastic deal.
