X-COM Creator Seeking Crowdfunding For Phoenix Point
Julian Gollop, the British designer responsible for creating the X-COM series of games, has set up a crowdfunding campaigning to help raise the funds for his latest title. Phoenix Point is aiming to raise $500,000 through the site Fig and has already reached more than 60% of that target thanks to the contributions of 4,600 backers. With some 42 days left remaining of the project, it looks likely that it will be successful.
According to information released through the campaign page. Phoenix Point has been in development for around a year already. It is scheduled to release in the fourth quarter of 2018 for PC, Mac, and Linux.
“We are creating Phoenix Point by taking influences from the famed X-COM franchise,” Gallop said. “We are updating our favourite gameplay features from X-COM titles such as UFO: Enemy Unknown and X-COM Apocalypse that I designed, and mixing them with some of the amazing ideas Firaxis Games executed brilliantly in their franchise reboots, to create an entirely new game whose essence lies in the XCOM genre.”
Julian helped create the X-COM series, most notably contributing significantly to both X-COM: UFO Defense and X-COM: Apocalypse along with his brother Nick Gollop. For his work on the early games, a tribute was made to him in the form of the “Gollop Chamber” within XCOM: Enemy Unknown by Firaxis Games.
Since then, he has worked on a variety of different franchises for a diverse group of publishers. This includes both the Ghost Recon and Assassin’s Creed series. His most recent project was Chaos Reborn, a Kickstarter-funded tactical RPG that acted as a remake to one of his earlier games. It was well received by critics and was nominated for several awards in 2015.
