Xbox Adds Speech-To-Text Feature, Testing It In Halo Wars 2
A brand new feature has been added to Windows 10 and Xbox One in the form of the Game Chat Transcription. It essentially acts as both a speech-to-text and text-to-speech service allowing voice communication between players to be translated into text on screen. However, the service is currently only available in Halo Wars 2, though, the company has said it hopes to roll it out to other titles after the test period ends.
Microsoft explained in a blog post on its official site that the new feature is a “way to communicate that creates a more accessible and inclusive gaming experience for everyone.”
If you want to turn on the Game Chat Transcription feature, you can do so by following the instructions below on both platforms:
- Go to Settings > All settings > Ease of Access > Game Chat Transcription.
- To transcribe other players’ voices into text, select Speech-to-text.
- To have your chat text read aloud to other players, select Text-to-speech.
- To choose the voice that other players will hear when your chat text is read aloud, select one of the available voices in the Text-to-speech voice menu.
