XCOM 2 DLC Set To Use Shadow Of Morder-like System For Enemies
Ever since Middle-earth: Shadow of Morder first released, it seemed likely that other developers would soon look to integrate its successful Nemesis system into their own games. The idea was such a new and unique idea that it looked likely that it could become a standard feature in the next couple of years.
However, apart from the recently announced sequel to that game – Shadow of War – there have been almost no high-profile titles that have utilized a similar mechanic. That is all set to change with War of the Chosen, a brand new DLC expansion pack for XCOM 2.
The expansion is set to include a brand new class of enemy called the Chosen. These characters are persistent, remembering everything you have done. This means that they can react to your tactics, develop grudges for specific troops, and can even talk smack about their fellow Chosen if they lose in battle to you.
“We used [Shadow of Mordor] as a jumping off point,” designer Jake Solomon said in an interview with Kotaku. “You’re playing that game, you’re developing these relationships, and it’s just so gratifying to have a game acknowledge what you’re doing as a player. In XCOM, you fight these Chosen aliens multiple times, and as they get stronger, they gain procedural strengths and weaknesses.”
This new system will not just add some extra spice to proceedings but will also influence your tactics and strategy. Chosen will develop countermeasures and abilities that combat your strengths, forcing you to change how you approach combat constantly.
