ZombiU May be Coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
Taiwan’s Game Software Rating Regulations board publicly filed a rating for an interesting entry. It appears to be ZombiU, the critically acclaimed Wii U launch title from 2011, only this time it’s for Playstation 4 and XBox One. The original game was published and released by Ubisoft, who did not turn a profit on it.
ZombiU was tailored to the Wii U hardware so specifically that some questions naturally arise. What are they going to do about the second screen, a crucial element to the gameplay? Will they force you to use your phone instead? (If they do, you’ll need three hands to play the thing.) And what happens to the name? Do they keep “ZombiU” even though that would no longer make sense, or does the name become “ZombiONE” or “Zombi4”? (Actually, the report shows a shortening to just “Zombi”.)
No matter how you feel about Nintendo losing an exclusive, the truth is ZombiU was an excellent game that was mostly ignored due to the Wii U’s install base being a couple million or so at the time the game was new. It doesn’t deserve to fall into obscurity, and ports to more popular systems may help avoid that fate. The question is how they pull it off.
