Azrael Confirmed to be Coming to Gotham
In the latest Gotham episode, “Scarification”, two major players were introduced to Gotham mythology. First, a new version of the classic Batman rogue, Firefly, was brought into the fold. But it was also revealed that the main villain of the season, Theo Galavan, is in fact a member of the Order of St. Dumas. And when Batman fans hear that Order, they think of the holy warrior Azrael. Comicbook.com talked with John Stephens about the possible connection and whether we can expect Azrael to appear in some form.
“We will be going deeper into the Order of St. Dumas over the next run of episodes, and it will continue to play an evolving role for the rest of the season,” Stephens said. “And yes, we wouldn’t be telling an Order of St. Dumas story without also intending to tell an Azrael story. Just keep watching.”
Now lest you think we’re jumping to conclusions, a key line points to at least a prologue to Azrael, where the “Father” of the Order currently noted to Theo Galavan, “The day of redemption is at hand. Our brothers are crossing the ocean now, warriors unlike this city has ever known,”
No doubt they’ll be trained by the Order in their ways, not unlike Azrael was in the comics. What will unfold as the season goes on? No clue. But this is getting exciting! New episodes for Gotham’s second season are currently airing on FOX.
