There is always a danger in doing prequel films of well-established characters. And Star Wars is doing that with the upcoming Star Wars Anthology film about a young Han Solo. We’ll get to see him before he became the “scruffy nerf herder” we met in the original films. But, that also means we’re going to meet other characters we know, like Lando Calrissian.
In the film, he’ll be played by fan-favorite actor Donald Glover, who is naturally very nervous about playing the role made famous by Billie Dee Williams. So, when Glover got the chance to talk to Williams, he tried to explain what he thought about his take on the character:
“I was like, ‘I’ve always felt like this character could do this, and he represents this, and I kind of feel like he comes from here, and it’s very obvious he has a lot of taste, so maybe he grew up seeing that from afar? Because I’m like that. Maybe he saw it from other planets and was like, ‘I want to be that,’” Glover told The Hollywood Reporter. “He just let me ramble on and on, and then finally I was like, ‘So, what do you think?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, I don’t know about all that. Just be charming.’”
“Just be charming”, yep, that sounds like Lando.
The film is set to arrive May 25, 2018.
