BioShock Creator Discusses Influences for Next Project
BioShock creator Ken Levine recently spoke at the Take This charity livestream event, and he revealed some new details for his next upcoming video game project, which is still a mystery project at this point. However, Levine did list some of his influences for the new game, and he referred to them as a “broad range of influences.”
Levine, who was the Creative Director for BioShock and BioShock Infinite, said that his next game project is inspired by other titles, including Dark Souls, System Shock, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Civilization and Dying Light. Just FYI, Dying Light was the game he was playing during the livestream. However, Levine added that the title will be “in the realm” of some of his earlier game development work, which includes such games as Thief: The Dark Project, Freedom Force and Tribes: Vengeance. So that’s a pretty eclectic lineup of games, so it’s hard to narrow down exactly what Levine could be going for here.
Levine also added that this project is not a big AAA production, like say the BioShock franchise. In addition, he clarified that naming influences for the game is “complicated.”
Levine’s game will reportedly be set in a “small-scale open world.” It is confirmed that it will be in the realm of science-fiction and will involve themes of artificial intelligence. As an auteur game developer, it will be interest to see what Levine comes up with next.
