Bloodborne Becomes A Card Game
Bloodborne happens to be the latest entry in the growing “so hard you explode” genre of video gaming, once thought to be extinct with the NES but now coming back thanks to the Dark Souls series. Just like Dark Souls, Bloodborne is a dungeon crawler where you face extremely powerful monsters until one finally does you in. Then you get back up and do it again, and again until you pass that monster — and face an even worse one. The reward is the satisfaction gained from finally moving on — an adrenaline rush of victory after facing ridiculous odds.
Now Bloodborne is a card game. You can’t exactly translate the punishing difficulty to paper, but this version makes things tough through more diabolical means. Players will work together to defeat the monsters in a dungeon, but only with the realization that just one of them will be allowed to leave — the one with the most points gathered during the journey.
In Bloodborne: The Card Game, players take on the role of the Hunter. They’ll delve deeper and deeper into a Chalice Dungeon and face off with the monstrous minions inside, before finally confronting a horrifying Final Boss.
The Hunters’ goal is to collect Trophies and Blood Echoes from their defeated victims. They’ll work together to combat the monsters of the dungeon, but only the Hunter who has acquired the most points will be allowed to leave the dungeon and return to the real world. So don’t mistake the occasional cooperation for friendship; Hunters will turn on each other to ensure they are the one to leave victorious.
Bloodborne: The Card Game will be out by the end of the week, November 11.
