Brian Michael Bendis Says He Won’t Make Early Avengers Mistakes With DC
One of the biggest things a comic book writer can do during their career is evolve. They have to look at what they’ve done and see if they can do better. For Brian Michael Bendis, he’s had a long career with Marvel Comics, but is now about to break into DC Comics with his run on Superman. As he looks forward, he can’t help but look back, and specifically, look back at one of the most divisive points of his career, his first run on Avengers:
“I’ve been thinking about this [with Avengers #500] lately,” Bendis noted in an exclusive interview with CBR. “That was where I thought it would be oh so clever to blow everything up. Some fans liked it, and some hated it. There were a lot of arguments online, and a fan said to me, ‘We’re Avengers fans. All we buy is Avengers. And we have no idea who you are, but you came over and kicked all our toys over. You said, “Haha! This is fun, right?” And we said, “No! We were enjoying that, and you kicked everything over!”‘”
Bendis admitted that he was wrong in what he did, and when it comes to Superman, and possible other DC Comics projects, he won’t do that. Here’s hoping the Brian Michael Bendis era truly starts off with a bang.
