Disney Infinity Begins Shut Down Process
Disney Infinity is to begin to shut down as Avalanche Software removes support for the game on multiple platforms. Starting from today, players will no longer be able to make in-game purchases on the PC, iOS, Android and Apple TV versions of the title, while the game will be removed from the stores on those platforms on September 30.
The game will still be playable but players won’t be able to submit new Toy Boxes, buy new items or access some online features. However, the title will shut down completely on Apple TV and PC on March 3, leaving the game completely unplayable on those services. The console edition of Disney Infinity will continue to work, though online components will not function and no extra content will be able to be purchased.
We revealed in May how Disney was planning to close down their Disney Infinity service. This came as a result of Disney Interactive making changes to its gaming business, with the company moving to stop self-publishing its own games and instead licensing out properties to others. This means that future Disney games will be developed and published by outside companies, as is the case with Star Wars and EA.
This change in policy was made because of the poor performance of Disney Interactive games such as Disney Infinity that had produced lower results that was previously expected.
