Fox Confirms an X-Men TV Series Is in the Works
For 20th Century Fox, the X-Men have long been a source of great profit. Their movies always do well financially (if not critically in some cases) and with the recent successes of X-Men: First Class, The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past, along with the hype that’s building for X-Men: Apocalypse, you’d think Fox would be content with what’s going on with their favorite mutants, or they could try and go bigger. In what has long been rumored, Fox Network co-chairman Dana Walden revealed during today’s Television Critics Association Press Tour (via TV Line) that there is indeed an X-Men TV series in the works for the network.
“We’re in negotiations with Marvel,” Walden revealed to the press. “We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce something soon. It’s something we’re definitely pursuing.”
To be clear, this isn’t the first time the X-Men franchise has had a live-action TV series. There are no details as of yet as to which X-Men would be in the series, clearly showing that this is truly in the beginning stages. However, Walden did note that there will be numerous characters not in the show. Mainly, any characters that are currently in the Marvel banner would not be on the show.
“The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature [films] side, so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney.”
This honestly makes perfect sense, and frankly, there’s enough X-Men and villains associated with them that they don’t need to dip into the larger universe.
