Free Mortal Kombat X Mobile Companion Game Announced
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios have officially announced a new mobile companion app version of Mortal Kombat X. The new mobile game is a free-to-play fighting/card-battler hybrid that is being developed for iPad, iPod Touch, iPhond and Android devices.
The companion app, developed by NetherRealm Studios, will launch alongside the console version of Mortal Kombat X next month in April. NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon stated on the announcement of the mobile game: “NetherRealm Studios has created a Mortal Kombat X mobile experience that allows more players than ever before to play this over-the-top fighting game through their ever-present smartphones, tablets or other devices. What’s more, we’ve expanded the unique cross-connectivity feature that links the mobile and console versions of Mortal Kombat X, delivering unique rewards to all players for simply playing the mobile game.”
The game will feature a hybrid of fighting, card collecting and multiplayer team combat. The game will incorporate the Fatality and X-ray moves and characters from the new game. If the mobile version of Injustice: Gods Among Us from NetherRealm Studios is any indication, the mobile version might even add characters or alternate skins who do not even appear in the disc version of Mortal Kombat X. Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden were all listed in the press release from Warner Bros. Interactive.
Mortal Kombat X is due out worldwide on April 14. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. After the game’s launch, players will be able unlock content in the free mobile game and vice versa if they sign up for a WB Play account and competing specific, objective-based tasks and achievements within each version. For example, players could unlock alternate character skins in both the console and mobile versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us by beating the game or all the levels or winning a certain number of matches. In addition, here is an official version for the mobile game.
