Iron Fist “Matures” In Defenders
When the lineup of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist was announced for Netflix, and then a Defenders mini-series was set to follow their arrival, fans were stoked. These were fan-favorite characters who were finally going to get their time in the spotlight. But, when Iron Fist arrived, it was anything but a warm welcome. As many, including myself in my review of the first season, noted that it was by far the worst of the Netflix series.
The awkward plot, characters, and the badly cut fight scenes made it almost unbearable to watch. So much so that there’s reservations about Defenders now because Iron Fist will be in it. The actor who plays Iron Fist, Finn Jones, has stated though that Danny Rand will “mature” during his time with the Defenders.
“The thing [with] Danny is that we’re taking an ordinary kid with a lot of issues and we’re trying to iron those out first before getting to Danny as Iron Fist. And what we’ll [see] in Defenders is Danny coming to terms with being a superhero,” he said to MCU Exchange. “In The Defenders when he first starts, he doesn’t even know what a superhero is and then he meets those guys and he’s like ‘WHOA. This is cool,’ and by the end of it you kind of see Danny really coming to the grips with his responsibility in a much more mature way.”
The question isn’t “will this work?”, it’s rather, “will fans accept it?” Because right now, Iron Fist’s name is mud, and that could hurt things going forward.
