Kevin Feige Praises Success Of Deadpool
Marvel was the first to truly branch out in regards to making movies of their characters. While DC made Superman and Batman, Marvel was more than happy to give their properties to other studios to make movies like Blade, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Daredevil and so on. Thus, they don’t own all the movie rights to their characters under the Marvel Studios banner. Deadpool, one of the biggest hits of the year, is one such movie franchise they don’t own. Despite this, Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige is more than happy with the success of the movie. He even stated why he believed it was a great success:
“When you present something as popular as a superhero character, in a different and unique and crazy way as they did in Deadpool, it demands attention and audiences went to it,” Feige told Deadline, praising Tim Miller’s work, saying he “did a tremendous job.”
He also noted that what really made it shine was staying incredibly close to the source material:
“The other secret, and why it’s still a secret, I don’t know, but they just took what Deadpool is in the comics,” he explained. “He breaks the fourth wall. He talks into the camera…. All of that is what made Deadpool so popular in the comics,” and Ryan Reynolds was able to “magnify that up on the big screen.”
Deadpool 2 is happening because of the success of the original, and the first movie is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD in just a couple of days.
