Key Wonder Woman Scene Almost Didn’t Happen
Wonder Woman had a $103 million dollar debut at the box office this past weekend, and fans are still raving about what the film had. Key among the story were several scenes that showed why Diana of Themyscira is a beautiful soul (inside and out) and a formidable warrior. The film had plenty of action scenes for sure, but a key one almost wasn’t put in.
Director Patty Jenkins revealed to Fandango that the soon-to-be legendary No Man’s Land scene where Wonder Woman took trench warfare to new heights was also left out, even though it’s one of the most powerful scenes in the movie. So why did it almost get cut?
“It’s also the scene that made the least sense to other people going in, which is why it’s a wonderful victory for me,” Jenkins said. “I think that in superhero movies, they fight other people, they fight villains. So when I started to really hunker in on the significance of No Man’s Land, there were a couple people who were deeply confused, wondering, like, ‘Well, what is she going to do? How many bullets can she fight?’ And I kept saying, ‘It’s not about that. This is a different scene than that. This is a scene about her becoming Wonder Woman.’”
Thankfully, Jenkins got the executives to approve the scene, and the movie was better for it. Wonder Woman is doing well worldwide, and a sequel, with Patty Jenkins attached, is already confirmed. Be sure to read our review of Wonder Woman!
