Microsoft Details Xbox One April Update
Xbox community manager Larry Hyrb, better known by his gamertag moniker of Major Nelson, has revealed via his blog some of the enhancements that will be included in the latest Xbox One system update. These include improvements to the achievement system, party chat and Game hub links, as well as some other unspecified feaures.
As is normal for Xbox One system updates, it will be first made available to those enlisted in the Xbox Preview program that gives users an early chance to beta test new features before general release. Other improvements and additions will be revealed later in the week according to Major Nelson and also released through the Preview program by the end of the week. The system update is expected to release to all Xbox One users by the middle of April.
The Party chat enhancements come in the form of new troubleshooting guides rather than any improvements to the actual quality of the communications or fixing connection issues. The new help section will help players to set up their mic correctly and to see which privacy options can affect how you can communicate with other users. Meanwhile, changes to how the Game hub links work will make it easier for users to browse and find content from the hubs than ever before through activity feeds.
Finally, the achievement system has been changed so that popups will now also display a brief description of the unlocked achievement so that users do not have to go to app to find out why they unlocked it. Microsoft are also working to make the process of getting to the achievement app quicker and easier from popups.
We’ll bring you more information about what to expect from the April system update as further details become available. Also, remember that April will see double the amount of titles released through the Games With Gold service. This means that Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download four games on the Xbox 360 at no cost, while Xbox One players will also have free access to two titles.
