Puyo Puyo Tetris Cutes Up Your Living Room April 28
The new Mario and Zelda titles took up the bulk of media attention during last month’s Nintendo Switch reveal, but there was enthusiasm among fans for the first glimpses of something that combined two classic puzzlers together. Now Sega has announced a release date for Puyo Puyo Tetris, and it’s coming to PS4 as well as Switch.
Everyone knows and has played Tetris, but it’s been a while since we’ve seen Puyo Puyo in America and it was originally released under different names: Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine on Genesis and Kirby’s Avalanche on SNES. In both cases, the makeover was deemed necessary because the cutesy visuals of the original didn’t agree with 1990’s Attitude. Now the country has no such hangups anymore, so Puyo Puyo is free to be itself.
Tetris and Puyo Puyo combine in different ways, mostly through competition with other players. In Versus mode you play either game, in Swap mode you constantly alternate between them. Then there’s Fusion mode, which finds a way to combine both into one! Other modes are also included.
The game is coming out at a budget price too. Puyo Puyo Tetris will be $29.99 on PS4 and Switch — however, in the case of the Switch version, that price only applies to digital. If you want it on a Switch Game Card (and most collectors will) PPT will cost ten dollars more. Look for Puyo Puyo Tetris April 28.
