Toy Story 4: New Plot and Production Details Revealed at D23 Expo
November 2015 will mark the 20th anniversary of Pixar’s Toy Story, the first feature-length CG animated movie. Toy Story was a groundbreaking film not just for its technology but for its great storytelling, endearing characters and universal emotional arcs. At this year’s D23 Expo, during the Walt Disney Animation/Pixar Animation Panel, Walt Disney Animation and Pixar Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter announced the celebration of the film’s upcoming 20th anniversary. In addition, he revealed new details for the upcoming sequel for Toy Story 4.
During the presentation, Lasseter even addressed how the third film closed the circle and was a strong end for the franchise. That is until Andrew Stanton came up with an idea that made them all believe they can pull of another adventure for Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the gang. The new film will be a romance, in which Woody and his friends search for Woody’s long lost love, Bo Peep. In Toy Story 3, Bo Peep was written out of the story, and she was apparently lost. However, it seems she is not “dead,” and the new story leads to a search for Woody to find Bo. According to Lasseter, the film is inspired by his relationship with his wife, and he will be back in the director’s chair for the film. In addition, Josh Cooley (Cars 2, Ratatouille, Riley’s First Date) will serve as the co-director alongside Lasseter, who will work from a script co-written by Parks and Recreation star Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Celeste & Jesse Forever).
Randy Newman, who was in attendance for Toy Story’s 20th anniversary celebration and played “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” will be back to compose the music and songs for Toy Story 4.
Toy Story 4 is slated for a June 16, 2017 release.
